Back-up Vocal~ The BBC has delivered yet again, through one of their documentaries on the history of Prog Rock. A discussion of production excesses for legendary Prog bands of the 1970’s, inspired this little gem. We haven’t seen the loading dock since the earliest days of Mannyacs. So, it was time to go back. Down the road, more exploration of the grounds may be apropos. For now, there are TWO FULL SIZE 18 wheeler trucks to load.
I love stories of the 1970’s glory days of Prog. The genre has always had an uneasy relationship with the music industry. These bands were revered or reviled and some achieved both levels of notice in the same year. The Godfathers of Prog really brought much of that on themselves. Grandiose sonic visions, socially polarizing albums, plus good old fashioned GARGANTUAN egos, often culminated in ridiculous stage productions and 20 minute long epic tunes for their own sake.
